Southern Forests and Valleys 19th Wine Show
Manjimup Rotary Club hosted the 19th Southern Forests and Valleys Wine Show on the 15th of September with an impressive all female judging panel! The show saw 87 wine entries from the local GI and across WA, Chief Judge Jane Faulkner (Wine Companion) said the highlight of the entries was the chardonnay and sparkling wines, noting the two to be strengths of the region. ‘The chardonnay looked fantastic today, as did the sparkling’. ‘Sparkling has always been a real strength of this region and what we saw today proves that it’s going to continue to do so, as well as some cool malbec and tempranillo a couple of good pinots as well’.
Jane was joined by Houghton’s winemaker Courtney Treacher, Wine Journalist Cassandra Charlick and associate judges Natalie Burch – Howard Park and Melissa Bell – Ampersand Winery.
Fellow judge Cassandra Charlick said she loved the sparkling wines from the region that were on display ‘I think WA sparkling doesn’t get spoken about enough nationally and I think we all need to do our job to drink local so the producers can make the wine, because without purchasing and consuming- what’s the point of it?’
The wine show is integral to the ongoing recognition of the Southern Forests and Valleys high quality cool-climate growing conditions and exceptional wines.
