Subject: WA WINES TO THE WORLD program update
Date: Tuesday 7th March 2023
WA WINES TO THE WORLD is an industry-led export program coordinated by Wines of Western Australia in conjunction with Hydra Consulting, with funding support provided by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD). The program runs for five years from July 2021. The program aims to increase the volume of WA wine exported to 20% of production; substantially increase the total value of wine exported; and in addition increase the number of WA wine producers that are successfully exporting. In achieving these objectives, the program will be instrumental in supporting WA to build stronger, more resilient and diverse markets.
This March, Wine Australia is returning to ProWein 2023 in Germany where they will take a large stand in the middle of the Australian area, generating excitement for the category and attracting a high calibre of visitors. WA WINES TO THE WORLD is supporting a regional stand for Margaret River and masterclasses for Margaret River and Great Southern. ProWein is Europe’s most important wine event, usually attracting around 60,000 visitors from across the world, including major buyers from Europe, UK, USA, Canada and Asia. For Australian producers the event provides invaluable access to some of the most influential people in the wine trade.
Over three days, from the 19-21 March, trade guests from around the world will have the opportunity to connect with Margaret River and Great Southern producers and taste the regions’ wines. Attendees will also have the chance to discover the latest releases, meet with brands seeking distribution and explore new opportunities from the world-renowned wine destination. Margaret River will be represented at ten exhibitor booths, a regional stand, a Cabernet Sauvignon masterclass and a 4-hour Margaret River feature at the Wine Bar on the Wine Australia stand. In a new hall and location (Hall 14, B10), the Wine Australia stand is 50% bigger than the last one planned for 2020.
Margaret River Wine Association CEO Amanda Whiteland said it’s great to have such a strong representation from Margaret River wineries at ProWein this year. “This is the biggest trade event for wine in the world, so to have so many representatives from the region travelling to Düsseldorf for the event this year is fabulous, particularly after 3 years of limited travel due to Covid. This is also the first time we have had a Margaret River regional booth at ProWein.”
“I am really looking forward to presenting Margaret River to trade from around the world at this huge event!” Ms Whiteland said.
Exhibitors heading to Düsseldorf
Producers heading to ProWein are predominantly Margaret River winemakers, with the exception of one Great Southern entry from Frankland River Estate. Trade guests will enjoy current releases from Handpicked Wines, Howard Park Wines, Madfish, McHenry Hohnen, Robert Oatley Vineyards, Vasse Felix, Voyager Estate, Wayfinder, Deep Woods Estate and Evans & Tate from the Fogarty Wine Group. Periscope Management will also have wine from Byron & Harold, Moss Brothers, Altus Rise, Wills Domain, Credaro, Jilyara, Knee Deep and Thompson Estate on their stand.

Add on experiences
To maximise on the opportunity presented by ProWein 2023, Austrade has organised additional wine tasting activities in Europe, to showcase and educate European buyers on Australian premium wines.
