MEDIA RELEASE – 14 November 2025
The Western Australian Wine Industry Showcase at Parliament House Sundowner was held on 11 November, bringing together eight wine associations, federal and state government agency officials, Wine Australia and state Members of Parliament for an evening of conversation, connection, and celebration of Western Australia’s EXHILARATING wine regions.
Hosted by the Hon Stephen Dawson, Minster for Regional Development, in the Courtyard at Parliament House, the event welcomed 100 guests who enjoyed themed regional tastings curated by each association. Margaret River showcased its award-winning Chardonnays in lightweight glass; Great Southern released museum-aged Rieslings, including vintages as far back as 2014. Swan Valley presented Old Vine Charter wines, highlighting Grenache and Chenin Blanc.
Geographe, Perth Hills, and Peel impressed with alternative varietals, while Southern Forests put their best foot forward with award-winning sparkling wines and Pinot Noir. Blackwood Valley rounded out the evening with an assiette of Shiraz. The event provided an informal opportunity for producers, government agencies and parliamentarians to engage directly and discuss the value and needs of the state’s wine industry.
A key moment in the evening was the posthumous presentation of a Life Membership award to Dr John Gladstones AO, recognising his lasting contribution to Western Australian agriculture and viticulture. Widely acknowledged as a guiding force behind the development of the Margaret River wine region, Dr Gladstones combined scientific precision with quiet generosity. His family, including daughter Helen and son Robert, were present and deeply appreciated the acknowledgement of his legacy.
The Hon. Minister Stephen Dawson delivered a keynote address that reinforced the Cook government’s commitment to the wine sector as vital to regional economies and communities.
“This event was a great opportunity to celebrate the wine industry, a sector which plays a key role in several of our regional communities. The event gave regional Ministers and Members the chance to meet with industry representatives and see the amazing work the industry is doing.
“It was a pleasure to present the Life Membership Award to Dr John Gladstone’s family and recognise his work” Hon Stephen Dawson, Minister for Regional Development.
Larry Jorgensen, CEO of Wines of Western Australia, thanked guests for their support: “This event is an important opportunity for our producers and regions to showcase the
contribution we make to regional communities and the broader economy. I hope guests had the chance to connect with members of our industry for an informal chat—and to discover a little more about the exhilarating wines coming out of Western Australia.”
“It was also meaningful to honour Dr John Gladstones AO and to have his family with us. His legacy continues to shape our industry, and We’re grateful for the opportunity to reflect on his influence and legacy.”
The event concluded with a strong sense of mutual commitment to ongoing collaboration between government and industry to support initiatives across regions.
