2023 Swan Valley Wine Show
The annual Swan Valley Wine Show was held from 6 – 8 September 2023 and marks the 35th Swan Valley Wine Show making it one of the longest continually operating wine shows in Australia. The wine show is an opportunity for winemakers to benchmark their wines against other wines from throughout the region to ensure and encourage the striving for excellence in winemaking practices. 245 wines were entered into this year’s show and 41 gold medals were awarded – this is reflective of the high standard of wines submitted.

John Kosovich Wines was awarded the trophy for the Best Swan Valley Table Wine of Show with their 2019 Chenin Blanc, this wine also won the trophy for Best Chenin Blanc. In the words of our Chief Judge Erin Larkin “The marquis classes at the show did not disappoint – Chenin Blanc, Verdelho, Grenache and fortifieds all stood up as highlights on judging day – as did the red blend classes. Brilliantly pleasurable drinkability on show there.” It was a successful show for Mandoon Estate as they took home trophies for Best Sparkling Wine (2015 Reserve Sparkling), Best Rosé (Discovery Mouverde Rose 2023), Best Non GPZ Wine, Dry White or Dry Red (2022 Reserve Chardonnay), Most Successful Producer with the highest accumulated points overall and the City of Swan Trophy, which is awarded to the exhibitor whose five or more entries gained the highest average score.

The Liquor Barons Trophy for the Best Regional Wine of Show is judged separately and is only open to gold medal winning Swan Valley wines and awarded to the wine that in the judge’s opinion shows true Swan Valley regional character. This was awarded to Upper Reach Winery for their 2022 The Gig Grenache. The Swan Valley Wine Show would not be possible without the generous support of our partners City of Swan, Liquor Barons, Labelmakers Group of Companies, MAP Bottling Services, SWAT Winery and Vineyard Supplies, Cospak, Faber Vineyard, WA Grapes / Vinro Wine Filtration, E.E. Muir & Sons and Advance Press.

The Swan Valley is the oldest wine region in Western Australia and the Swan Valley Wine Show is recognised as being one of the premier regional wine shows in the state. The Swan Valley Winemakers Association was incorporated in 1979 and has had a strong voice in the Valley for over 44 years. The Association has actively supported the growth of winemaking and wine tourism, with their members investing millions of dollars into the infrastructure in the valley which underpins the thriving tourism economy we have today.
